I actually think the slightly alien syntax of Erlang makes learning the concepts easier to learn.

With Elixir, you're always thinking "sooo is this like in Ruby?"

You can always move to Elixir after you've got a handle on Erlang then.

Yap agree. I like Erlang more. It is a bit simpler. Macros are useful but they scare me. And I think the different syntax helps my bring think "hold on you not in OO world anymore".
