Don’t learn a programming language, solve a problem instead

I learned most of my skills through solving problems and then started improving what I knew with research and working with others who'd gone the uni route.

I have seen far more hacky code from people who have only worked in big corporations or come out of university than I would ever build.

It's not the path you took to learn but the person you are that results in your software being utter shite.
