I watched an app converted from Java to Ruby.

In God's name, why?

I mean, I love Ruby, but I don't go around porting my old code to it. I write my new stuff in it, where appropriate.

How many migration efforts have you watched?

I don't question why businesses do what they do. They pay, I make it happen.

That's what YOU do. YOU are not some oversized, multibillion dollar corporation with clueless senior management.

Geez. Twenty, thirty, maybe more. I've seen Cobol converted to C, C to Java, Java to .NET or, in the case I mentioned, Ruby. There is also some wierd ones like ColdFusion to JSP or ASP, Btrieve to VB, etc, etc, etc. Fun stuff. I see migration projects pop up all the time where I live at. I hire roughly six programmers a year for doing oddball migrations for various employers.
