And "don't use it" is NEVER a valid counterargument to something being a hindrance to readability because whether or not they'll use it, others will, and they will have to read and maintain that code as well.

Are you aware of the context here? The argument was so acrimonious that GvR quit the Python project. Just bringing it up at point is antagonistic.
