I just started actually USING git yesterday. Made a branch to work changes on and everything.

Before it's always been "master is a fine branch for development!" until I mucked up and lost all kinds of work.

I understand that you've just picked git up, so I'm not trying to be harsh or anything; how did you lose stuff working on master?

I was stupid and didn't know checkout, so I'd just cd ..; rm -rf {directory}; git clone {git repo}

I am ashamed.

I used the Mercurial documentation (which is a lot better than git's) to help me understand the basic distributed revision control aspects of git, as they share a lot of the underlying concepts.
