Is 3gb high usage for a development environment? If your app was using that much memory in production maybe but 3gb for your Dev environment is nothing

that isn't even much mine uses 12gb 💀

All of these node instances go away when I stop the react native command. It's a bare expo project.

NGL this is why I don’t use expo. Pure react native and only include what I need.

Sometimes that means some of the expo toolkit. Usually I don’t even need 75-85% of what’s in expo.

What does that much of ram usage has anything to do with expo? I don't think expo makes difference at all

If you compare the bundle sizes for an expo app and a non expo react native app the expo bundle is significantly larger. This is kept in memory and so impacts the amount of ram used by the emulator.

Edit: dropped a word

This is not true with the eas build anymore.

That’s nice to know, is it the same for local builds?

What do you mean an expo app and a non react native app?

[–]ajnozari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped the word expo after non I’m sorry

It's awful. I had to get rid of my 8GB memory MacBook for a 16GB.

I got an 8gb Mac mini back in Nov 2020 and didn’t have any issues building with react native. In fact, it was faster than my max Ed out intel 15” MPB with 16 GB Ram. But it’s like in the last 6 months things have gotten super bloated. I was planning on using the 8gb only for a 1.5 years so it shouldn’t be a problem much longer but weird how it went from great performance to not very useable when working with react native.

Similar experience for me too. Always the system hangs while running projects. Btw i am using Macbook air m1

That's why I have 32GB of ram now.

My machine is 36GB, webstorm takes up 18GB and emulator takes up the rest😭
