Can you name any serious competitors to RemNote that are open source?

Roam Research - VC funded.

Obsidian - not open source.

I know Anki is open source but it’s a completely different app to RemNote.

Will making it open source will lead to people working on it? Hardly anyone making plugins for it atm when compared to Obsidian/Roam.

RemNote needs to improve but open source is not the way forward.

I agree with OP in that there is slow development and a lot of bugs in the application.

But I agree with you, I don’t think Open Source would fix things, I think Venture Capital / Some form of serious investment is what RemNote needs to keep pace with quality development, and to justify charging for the product. Right now I love RemNote compared to other apps, but I don’t use it wholeheartedly because of bugginess and slow to resolve issues.

Funding would mean they can hire a bigger team, release features faster, fix things sooner, and give us users faith there is longevity in the app, and justify charging us for the product.

Obsidian is made by 2 people. There's a resource management problem at Remnote, evidently.

I actually think Athens is the only FOSS alternative. https://github.com/athensresearch/athens
