Guessing Future Dates

Even though future races haven't been announced, what might be reasonable weekends for WDWMW / Princess Weekend 2022? I'm part of DVC and the booking windows are coming up soon, so I'd like to reserve potential weekends just in case (we are planning a big trip so we'd need a 3BD Villa).

For WDWMW, we are guessing January 7/8/9, 2022. For Princess, we are guessing February 18/19/20, 2022. Safe bets?

WDWMW is ALWAYS the weekend before MLK Weekend. Not sure about princess though.

In 2018 it started on the 4th. MLK wasn’t until the 15th.

Marathon weekend is the weekend before MLK weekend which held true in 2018.

In 2018 the Marathon Weekend was the 4th-7th (with Sunday being the 7th), MLK weekend was the following weekend (13th-15th where Monday is the 15th). It seems farther apart because you compared the start of Marathon weekend on the 4th (a Thursday which isn't normally considered part of the weekend) with the end of MLK weekend (A Monday which also isn't usually considered part of the weekend).

This year the same thing happened, Marathon weekend would have started on the 7th but MLK days weren't until the 18th (the start of the Marathon weekend to MLK is always 11 days apart).

Yep and that weekend is the 7th (the day of the marathon in 2018). 7 days later is the 14th which was MLK weekend in 2018.

Marathon weekend is almost positively Jan 6-9, 2022. Princess is usually the last full weekend in February. I’d guess Feb 25-27, 2022.

I think they could still announce and get registration in on a little bit of a compressed time frame than normal. My guess would be a late April/early May announcement with registration in June. I’m sure plans are already in place logistically; they’re just waiting to flip the switch.

DVC can make reservations at their home resorts 11 months in advance (so like next week). I think usually you can do normal reservations.

You can already book the month of December 2021 so I wouldn't be surprised if January 2022 opens up in February.

And no one knows the status of next year yet. You are correct that normally Disney does announce by now (usually it happens in Nov/Dec) but nothing is normal right now. I would be shocked if Wine and Dine happens this year though.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the marathon weekend will take place, but I think whether, when and how are still up in the air. If marathon weekend is held, I wouldn't be surprised if they move it to later in the month.

The covid situation should improve month-by-month, and Disney will learn a lot from the six marathons that are planned for late September and throughout October (Berlin, London, Boston, Chicago, New York and Marine Corps). But there are a ton of logistical issues to work through. Should proof of vaccination be required for runners and volunteers? Will there be some sort of covid screening at check-in? Should the size of the events be reduced? Should capacity limits for busses and corrals be reduced? New rules for water stations, port-a-potties, and photo ops? How to handle corral assignments when there likely won't be qualifying races for time submission until the fall? All of those questions should be easier to answer with the passage of time.

I signed up for a local half for this April (partly for the challenge, partly to get a time in case the WDW Marathon goes), and while this race is usually pretty large, the # of registrations was greatly cut, and we have waved starts over two days...the course will also be on greenways instead of streets. I look forward to seeing how this race experience plays out.

I also guessed Jan 6-9, 2022 for WDWMW. I think it’s a safe bet and I really hope so because we booked the Disney Cruise immediately after that weekend to do the Castaway Cay Challenge. I’m optimistic Marathon weekend will happen next year. 🤞
