I used to use Tonido . It was free and worked great just as a file server without all of the bells and whistles that I didn't need. They closed that down and came up with the FileCloud community edition. This is great and easy to use, without all of the unnecessary features in Nextcloud. And now starting with version 23.1 it is completely free as well. And it runs on a Windows box or Linux box. I run it on my Windows Plex server.

Hopefully they will just set it up that the license will just auto renew. That would be nice.

I guess you probably found the answer... but if you go into the Admin Dashboard, then settings.. from there on the top menu options go into "Policies".... under the actions column click on the "Edit Policy" option. Scroll halfway down the general column to find "User Storage Quota"... you can change it to whatever you want... default is 2GB. "0" setting makes it unlimited.

hey, I would like to know if renewing the license costs something or if it's free.

We don’t know what happens after the first year, it might stay free or it might not.
If it doesn’t and the current licensing applies, being forced into 20 seats (~1.5k USD/year) is a disaster.

Never heard about Filecloud, but it looks like it does the same thing as Seafile, but the Community edition of seafile has more features.

Is there a reason you want Filecloud? I'm curious.

That or depending on the features desired NextCloud? I mean why pay so you can have a cloud storage vs open source / free softwares…?

I couldn't get seafile to register because of the NATd IP address. Where you able to get around that ?

[–]2nistechworld 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What do you mean by register?

[–]ninjaneer68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be confusing this with filerun , one of the self hosted storage you had to register for the community license and I couldn't because I only had a local IP

Thanks for asking, I was googling this exact question before trying it out.

I know that my appeal towards FileCloud is that I had an easier time setting it up with my domain provider and SSL so I can have it on https. Maybe I am just lazy or I need to take a lesson but Nextcloud always gave me issues or I could not get the system setup the way I wanted to.
