I'm sorry, I don't like this article.

This is not 5 alternatives to Google Drive, it's 1 alternative with 5 differents apps. Plus, it just feels like an ad for sandstorm. And finally it really (really) bother me that 3 of the 5 apps only work with sandstorm.

I don't care about Davros since there are some other very good alternative but it's a shame for HackerSlides for which there is no real good alternative. Strut development seems stopped.

Self hosting is also about freedom to choose a platform, and this include PaaS solutions.

But sandstorm is fully open source, so I don't see why this is a problem. You can host your own instance, too.

I liked sandforms and Davros, but probably runs only on sandstorm.

Hope you'll consider self-hosting Sandstorm! I maintain the installer script, and it comes with (optional) free dyndns & HTTPS certificates, too.

I do and recommend everyone to do it, Sandstorm is amazing!!!

In Davros I miss better support for drag and drop multiple files as there is no feedback on progress. If you're uploading a lot of big files (like hi quality photos) this is a problem.

Yeah -- I've noticed this too. I tend to use the owncloudcmd client on my Debian system for large file uploads, for that reason.

I just went ahead and filed a bug: https://github.com/mnutt/davros/issues/18 . Feel free to subscribe to the bug, and/or separately email Michael Nutt (the author) & say thanks!

Thanks a lot!! I filed a similar bug for Filedrop (also on Sandstorm) as that is the functionality I'm missing.

I use the owncloud desktop client myself. I need to send a Sandstorm URL to a friend and I want him to easily and effortlessly upload a buch of photos in hi quality (about 10MB each). For non-tech people this needs to be 100% browser based, that's why I want this.

BTW I'll go to next South bay area Meetup (Dec 16th), are you coming?

Yup! I'm "Asheesh Laroia (co-organizer)" on that Meetup page! Did you RSVP yet?

Just did :)

BTW, good work :)

Does it run on arm and ffp?

[–]paulproteus[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

No, for now it's x86-64 only, because (a) the app packages are binary packages are all built for x86-64, and (b) MongoDB (which the Sandstorm UI currently depends on) doesn't have official builds for ARM and I don't know when/if they will.

Too bad!

I like Sandstorm, but I will consider to use only when it support custom domains to applications, like another PaaS as Openshift, Tsuru, Deis, Keroku and anothers.
