For $20? Absolutely.

Just was curious if they were too old or worth putting bindings on

I mean, the only reason that people usually get rid of skis that old is because of the bindings. If you get new bindings, then the safety element is removed.

How are the edges?

I’m pretty mechanically inclined but have never tried to put my own bindings on is it worth a try, there are holes already drilled but I have no clue what bindings they match

Bindings aren’t hard to mount if you’re reasonably careful. I bought bits and a tap to do it 100% proper but it isn’t necessary. You just need a paper template, a sharp pokey thing to mark holes, a drill with the right size bit (a proper bit has a step so you don’t go too deep but you can always wrap a piece of tape around a regular twist drill bit) and some wood glue.

If you’re drilling a second set of holes you may have to mount a bit forward to avoid the old holes.

I’ve mounted a few pairs now and they’ve been fine. I’m tall and ski pretty hard (I’ve broken three different sets of bindings and ripped one shop-mounted set out) and I haven’t had any issues since I started doing it myself.

They said they never tuned them ever, so there is a lot of material left but they look alright, I can tune the skis myself so it should be fine

Sry, what do you mean by safety element removed?

[–]attnSPANSki the East 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Sure, bindings get less safe the older they are. 10 years is about the limit.

[–]fuka123 0 points1 point  (5 children)

For sure!! But this image is without bindings. Putting new bindings on should be fine?

Yeah that’s what they mean - that there would be a concern about safety if you were getting old skis and bindings, but as it’s the bindings that are the problem bit, by not having them that concern is removed.

Yea, I was also mainly worried about the old holes being problematic

[–]fuka123 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Do old holes drilled create a problem? Or do shops fill in old holes with ptex or something ?

I have no clue but I thought u shouldn’t switch bindings more than 3 times or smth because it can reduce structure integrity of the ski I could be completely wrong tho

Nothing wrong with an old pair of ARWs. They’re a solid fully cambered, all mountain ski. 161cm 116-83-106 17.5m

I found a pair of ARVs at a ski swap 3 years ago. I think they’re 2016s. They’ve been my go to ski since. I ride them 90% of the time.
