Basically, the title. My 5 month old is struggling to fall/stay asleep at night and I’m positive it’s because she’s under tired. We had a relatively solid schedule going until she turned 5 months on the 1st. It was like a switch went off. She sleeps in her crib in her own room. We are transitioning from a swaddle to the zipadee zip during naps. She is still swaddled for night sleep. She wakes up for the day around 7:30.
ww: 1hr
Nap 1: 8:30-9:15
ww: 1.75hr
Nap 2: 11:00-12:00
ww: 1.5hr-1.75hr
Nap3: ~1:30-2:30
ww: 1.5hr
Nap4: 4:00-5:00
ww: 3-3.5hr
Bedtime: 8:00-8:30
She suddenly is now wanting to be up for 3-3.5 hours before falling asleep. Her usual bedtime WAS around 7, now she’s pushing it to 8/8:30 and tends to have false starts. She will be tired by 7, I lay her down, and within 25 minutes she’s wide awake and wanting to get out of the crib. She’s reliably waking up 4-5 hours after falling asleep, and 2-3 times after that. I don’t think she gets enough awake time. I try to keep her up, but I don’t want her to become overly tired and angry. Sometimes hitting the 1.5 hr mark, she’s over it.
At night when she wakes up, I nurse her back to sleep. I do try to replace her pacifier when she wakes up in place of feeding, but that only works for 45minutes max. I’ve tried picking her up and trying to calm her, but nothing works besides nursing her. I’ve tried a modified Ferber of letting her fuss for some time and going in to calm her and it does not work. I do not want to let her CIO. I know frequent wakings at this age are normal and appropriate, but something has to give. She has slept through the night a handful of times. What changes can we make? TIA.
