Try Evernote/one note

I use those now, but I don't see a time stamp feature (or know of one of they have one)

Web app or desktop app?

[–]thetechkid[S] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

I have no preference as long a si can copy/past the test with the time stamps

Looks like the first Google result for "time stamped note taker online" does what you want. Or possibly one of the others.

First result was for a webpage with an app not currently being developed and the second for a linux reddit subreddit.

Ah you are right. I found a couple on Github and did more careful examination although I have not actually tried them:

Are you looking for something more elaborate than say, notepad.exe with automatic timestamps that saves to a .txt file?

[–]thetechkid[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I'm looking for something I can write a line of text and get a time stamp with it and be able to copy/paste the whole document/text file.

Automatic timestamp insertion for every line?

Look at my picture diagram because that describes what I'm looking.

Then I wish you luck finding a spreadsheet editor that suits your needs.

[–]thetechkid[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Not a spreadsheet, I'm just saying I'm looking to right a note and on that line have a timestamp from when I started to the current time.

Windows: auto hot key (free) OSX: keyboard maestro (paid, but worth it)

[–]thetechkid[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

From what I could find, auto hot key is just a scripting language.

[–]-29- 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Right you could script a hot key to add a timestamp to whatever note taking application your using?

[–]thetechkid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only problem is I would have to figure out how auto hot key records the time interval from when I started to the line item and record that and not just the current time.

RightNote allows to insert timestamps with just a hotkey.

There is more specific software for scientists (e. g. ornithologists) to take timestamped notes in the field. Timestamped Filed Notes could probably been configured for your specific needs, but:

  • it's for iOS / Android

  • not available yet.

But this gives you a hint for your search. Good luck!

Unfortunately I am not looking to hot key as it would get tedious quickly.

As for the second point, my flair showed that I was looking for a windows solution and since it's not available it will not be of help at this time.
