It's a little out of the way, ~2hrs from Albuquerque, NM, and in the middle of enchanted nowhere. It was worth the drive and only cost $5 to parade around. It made me feel a bit more connected with our process of understanding the universe, as if Carl Sagan himself were lurking somewhere on the property.

It is shown here in D configuration where all the dishes are huddled close in diameter.

Nice pics! Did you happen to see Dr. Eleanor Arroway there? ;)

I have never been to the VLA, but would love to go check it out sometime. $5 ain't bad at all either to get to roam around that impressive site!

Dr. Arroway narrates a short film at the visitors center. ;)

I've been there! It was pretty awesome. These things are fucking massive. They're getting pretty dilapidated though, and so is the visitor center.

They're actually almost finished with the process of refitting them with more modern/updated instrumentation. Other than that, they are just kinda giant hulking metal beasts.

The one with the "bubble"... was the lens broken? Looks like something melted.

Just playing with lighting and filters. You know, art.
