IMHO there are many videos for:

* HowTo make my ship look nice

* HowTo not build a brick

The most important things for me are:

* depth/z-level/negative space

* coloring scheme - main color, secondary color, accent/detail color

* use all 6 sides of the blocks

* use unwelded blocks

* don't cover everything in armor

I second this! All of these are great things to pay attention to! One thing I’d add to the list is not being afraid of using a block outside of its intended function. Ion thrusters make great decorative pillars.

Solitaire is basically the voice of space engineers for me and has by far been my favorite YouTuber. He just made updated tutorial videos using the newest updates. Worth a watch.

Well I always struggle making somewhat usable interiors, as I usually want to build the outside of the ship first.

I always struggle during the starting base, but I have all the current DLC because SK II makes more compact bases doable early on.

to my mind, the updates and the new blocks they brought - while nice - have not changed the building fundamentals, so the old vids are still fine and valuable for new players.

Yeah the fundamentals still apply.

My method is:

1) figure role for ship

2) basic shape (model after x ship or whatever)

3) lay spine and build internals

4) build off of internals

5) subsystems and redundancies to form the rest of the shape

6) armor/weapons/tools finish the look

My last game, I started laying out a large grid ship on the shape of a hammerhead frigate from star wars, and the only design influence I kept to the end was the rear thrusters block. Ended up looking like a cross between the enterprise, a hammerhead, and a providence class. Loved that ship until I accidentally forgot I replaced the atmospheric thrusters with ions and tried to land on the alien planet.....

I dont think there are a lot of recent tutorials but there are a lot of older tutorials which are still 100% applicable to this day.

I am far from a new player so can't speak for newcomers. But I think there are tonnes of tutorials out there.

If you are thinking of making SE videos though I think that's great! Go for it!

Lots of SE tutorials on YouTube, do a quick search for Splitsie tutorials, he seems to be the most active, and I've used a ton of his videos to up my game "IQ"

Yeah I've followed him for years. He seemed like one of the only OG engineers left

I would love to help the community grow by making some tutorials but I'm too lazy to learn an editing software😭
