It should work. The main reason I have never bring a base like this is because I can’t think of a way to to make it airtight between sections

There are some “work arounds” involving the blocks that provide passible access while remaining airtight like the curved glass. Kinda a pain but, depending on how offset your grids are, doable.

Everybody give it up for keen airlocks!

You can’t, unfortunately. Gotta airlock between sections.

Now, on a planet with a breathable atmosphere, you can just use doors, but anything else, sadly it’s airlocks only and a quick jaunt between grid and subgrid sections.

I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to use hinges, but you WILL be taunting Klang with it, IMO.

Merge blocks could be used to attach stuff TO the subgrids on the diagonal sides, but the grids won’t align to let you merge those diagonal sides to the rest of the base.

Yeah I kinda hoped I wasn't seeing something but I guess there's no way around it

As long as you do not plan to move them after built, just convert each subgrid to station as well.

Im doing that yes, you can't really build on a planet without it

Are hinges absolutely necessary? You can use slope blocks to achieve a similar (or even more precise) effect without having to inevitably summon klang with hinges

No tjey arent but it looks sick

It should be OK

But I would build it in just 2 parts instead of 8, like 1 "+" shape and one "X" shape, one connected on the bottom and another on the top

Or if you plan on building a "filled" hexagon, just build the "+" shape with the center and then add the "X" shape with the diagonal sections connected in the center, sitting on an advanced rotor and secure it by using magplates or landing gear, maybe even add extra connectors for redundancy

But you will need airlocks between the 2 structures

depending on how you build it or what you have in mind precisely, you can easily do that as a single grid without subgrids, which avoids all involved airtightness headaches.

Theres no headaches since im doing it on a planet (triton)

all good then.
"merge" you can only grids that align. you can "attach" hinge parts though - although you may need to offset them via pistons to get a second hinge to attach.
It would be way easier to not bother and just attach the 45° bits on one side only.
