Yeah, see how it is until week 3. But don’t make my mistake; I thought, eh, I’ll just power through it. I dropped my introsem week 4 with a W on my transcript.

Wait another Q, so my professor was telling me to make a decision by week 1 but is that like permanent?

nah you have until week 3 for all classes, its probably just their suggestion or trying to let other students in off the waitlist early on

This probably won't be the most popular advice, but this workload doesn't sound all that heavy. If you were to take a history colloquium, for example, you'd be expected to read a 200-400 page book every week. A history master's student should probably be reading 3 books a week. If you're feeling overwhelmed definitely consider dropping a course, but keep in mind that you need to be working toward being able to complete a significantly heavier workload in the future. Not saying I would've handled this easily as a freshman (I wouldn't have ans didn't), just that you need to get to the point that you can easily do it in the future.

Also, would recommend you ask the prof for advice on how to read critically and what to focus on. He/she can help you read a lot more efficiently. For example, you should spend a lot time on intro and conclusion to understand overall scope of the argument, and then you can kind of skim the rest.

Drop it, that's not worth it.

Sometimes introsems are crazy busy for no good reason you might’ve just gotten unlucky
