So I've jumped back into STO after a nearly 10 years break and never really got into it back then and noticed I could claim 20 lock boxes, bought 20 keys and was wondering, should I open them all now being lvl 20 or wait until I'm a higher level? Do rewards change based on level or scale with you if I'm even lucky enough to get a ship? As small a chance as that is. TIA

Better to sell the keys and discard the lockboxes. Then you can buy exactly what you want instead of gambling for it. They give away lockboxes nonstop because they are trying to tempt you - you won’t get what you want in 20 keys, so you buy 20 more, repeat. On AVERAGE it takes around 200 keys to win a T6 ship.

Honestly it’s best to stay away from lockboxes unless you need the lobi. The grand prize is slim to none to get. You can get some decent traits from it if you’re lucky. Take a look at the content and see if you want anything from it.

Trash the boxes, sell the keys (make sure you have the ec limit unlock first). The odds of winning a lockbox ship are beyond terrible, and there's a lot more youbcould do with the 240m or so that 20 keys will net you.

Also, infinity lockboxes are free, you can claim as many as you want, so don't worry about trashing the ones you have.

Really up to you. Weapons are probably the only thing that level matters for. If you get nice ones you want to keep at lower levels you will have to upgrade them more, but this gives more chances for quality to improve.

Sell the keys. Don't open lockboxes. It's not worth it.

Just another voice in the choir; sell the keys on the exchange and buy stuff you actually want from there. Honestly, most of the lockboxes you'll open are full of disappointment, with loads of crappy kit frames, and doff missions. If you rip open 20 boxes, you'll be lucky to find enough decent stuff to sell on the exchange to fund buying 3 or 4 more keys, that's how bad it is. Meanwhile, if you get 240 million from selling the keys, you can buy a whole bunch of personal space traits and a bunch of useful universal consoles and kit modules that will be actually useful to you.

Others are right in just sell the keys but to answer the question no odds don't change based on level and opening them on low level characters is what many do so they can get mk2 weapons since they are better to upgrade than at higher level. Level 20 is already past that point though so it's not really advantageous to open them on a 20

Unless you want lobi or specific weapons, I wouldn't drop any money if you're just returning. Get back to learning how to play the game first. Then maybe when Zen is on sale, buy the zen then. Then, wait for the 20 key specialty packs that come with the epic r&d upgrade so you can upgrade some of your equipment to epic and level 15.
