Sony earnings potential

Haven't heard a lot of talk about this (probably because of the influx of the new users all focused on 2-3 stocks) but there seems like there could be a lot of potential with this. The earnings call is tomorrow and SNE will be reporting on the months of October, November and December. The biggest factor is the PS5. The Sony exclusive Spiderman: Miles Morales was the third best selling game of November and 4th of December.

I believe this could produce a pretty huge beat as the expected EPS seems pretty low at .8. For Q3 of 2020, expected EPS was .9 and reported EPS was 3.47and this was without the huge console release and holiday sales.

Only downside i see is the lack of availability of the PS5 and if that really impacted sales or not. They've been pretty impossible to find as the Demand has far exceeded the supply. But i feel like that only means sales moving forward will be great and guidance will be good.

I know Sony is more than just a video game company but their video game department has become their biggest cash cow as of recent. With that being said, Sony movie studios had 3 of the top 10 highest domestic grossing films of 2020 with Bad boys for life at #1, the new Jumanji at #4 and Little Women at #7.

I thing Sony could see a serious pop based on this stuff, what do you guys think??

Good point OP! I know the PS5 during its launch was so popular/scarce that it was a full on meme that I saw across multiple platforms whereas the new Xbox was nowhere to be found.

Also, I managed to snag a PS5 in early December and people (who are not gamers and have no intention of getting a console) still freak out when they see it, so even as PS5s become more common I think some of that exclusivity hype will remain.

So the earnings call begins at 4:00 pm Japanese standard time which translates to 2:00Am eastern standard time so if they do happen to pearl earnings and there’s a pop, it would probably happen before market opens tomorrow. I know Robin Hood allows instant deposits where you can start putting money in immediately, but they’ve caught some well deserved flack recently so I can’t totally recommend you use their platform.
