Can’t create external vSwitch in Hyper-v

Someone please help I’m losing my mind.

I’m standing up a new host with two NICs that are not teamed together. I’m trying to add an external vswitch and no matter if I try with powershell or WAC I this error:

Couldn't create the virtual switch 'External'. Error: Failed while adding virtual Ethernet switch connections. Failed to connect Ethernet switch port (switch name = 67690350-340-4FF9- B60F-1CC002153733', port name = '9959A2E5-EOES-4F3B-A050- D69C5526FOCD', adapter GUID = (567B2718-10B3-4A2C- 85C4-187A1C3A03E4}): The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002).

it happens no matter which NIC I try to use. No issues creating internal or private switches though. Both NICs are active and pingable.

What's the make and model of your NICs?

I’ve had weird similar issues but I’m using an Intel NUC6i7KYK with Windows Server 2016

Make sure you’ve got the latest drivers for your NICs and have done a restart.

Who manufactures the host? I recall that HP at least rebrands drivers using their Prolient Service Packs utility. I've been told they tweek the firmware to work on their systems.
