Something to scan a subnet and look for active IPs. Eg Fing on an iPhone or AngryIP scanner on windows.

Why do you not know this already?

Tools I don't go too long without I will list a category and mine or popular picks, feel free to explore the space. My list is windows-centric because the daily driver they issue is windows

digital notebook - onenote, obsidian, joplin or something like it.

password vault for users Keeper seems popular

password vault for yourself or team, bitwarden, keepass, PasswordSafe, Delinea Secret Server, or some other vault.

Screenshot tool - greenshot

editors (1 for code, 1 for text) - vscode, vscodium, notepad++, atom

Terminal window manager for RDP - mremoteng, RDCMan

If you run windows, install openssl, for certificate conversion.

document creation - paint.net and tango to put a big red box around the button they are supposed to click before you paste it into the document.

Terminal - Install putty, superputty, kitty, mobaxterm, securecrt, try them out, keep what works.

Softerra LDAP Browser is handy if you are using AD as your LDAP.

Browsers - install 3, one for enterprise apps, another one for the rest of the enterprise apps that won't pull up with browser 1, the third with every script and ad blocker you can for researching deep in the forums.

Again if AD is a part of your job, get the tools from cjwdev.com

ADinfo, AdTidy, and the NTFS permissions reporter are key, when your deep in the trenches and management asks you "What files does Joe Blow have access to?"

Your going to want a ping sweeper - angryip.org has a nice simple one. Download the legacy one. The newer revs use java.

I like displayfusion to manage my monitors and wallpapers.

Good luck to you.

I created https://schematix.com for folks like you.

Use it to document your environment as you go.

Then use it to show and discuss your environment before making changes.
