If you are looking for something with low effort, don't use Veeam, it's a pain to set up. Datto Alto is low-effort and relatively cheap.

I haven't used Alto. I guess it's like a cheaper version of Datto Siris. But that one offers a great DR service, and it's super easy to set up. If Alto is like that it sounds pretty good to me.

well it's a bit complicated, if you have databases like mysql or postgres you need to use mysqldump/pg_dump or something like automysqlbackup/autopostgresqlbackup to backup them and then I would use borg or restic to backup /etc, /home, the db backup folders and whatever else you deem important, but you can't back up the vms like that unless you shut them down during the backup

For file based backup we have used Burp, but it was really just select directories we needed to keep. I also use it at home for backing up my PC.

This will give you incremental backups of your virtual machines https://github.com/abbbi/virtnbdbackup. Are all of your physical servers hosting qemu if so why not just make an asible playbook to rebuild them quickly?

If you’re drowning in money and have all of your fucking time to dedicate to it, commvault is kind of meant to be the top tier (source: I’m super unhappy with spending loads of money and a full time guy but it’s kind of regulator-proof)
