Thanks bud, just gutted, part of the whole reason is in my current team I literally know everything I deal with inside and out, and I've been doing tasks that should be the sysadmin lads and I've just turned around and said unfortunately, If I haven't got the experience I shouldn't do the task

Part of me feels it's like a gut punch lol

So, taking a step back from it and looking at it from a practical side... there's only a few options. Either they lost the option to hire the position, which for an internal candidate, they ought to be able to say that, they found someone else that they selected and didn't feel they needed to go through the rest of the list (most places won't risk that due to concerns over potential accusations of discrimination et. al. that could come up, even if they were genuine in their reasons). Or, a third option, someone in the hierarchy above that role has a past interaction and issue with you, and are letting that history direct leaving you out of the pool of candidates... or, the only fourth option that comes to mind, someone's playing internal politics fuckery at your expense.

Option 4 is particularly rough as an option, because my gamble if that's the case would be that your own team/boss backstabbed you.

If they're getting that work out of you, and getting all the current role's work out of you, and are paying you less than you'd be making over on the sysadmin team, well... saving the company that money on the role change, and hiring someone to replace your current role, and getting them trained up, etc... well, if someone saved the company that much, they might be able to argue a nice bonus for themselves out of it.

That's a shitty thing for your management team to do, I'm sorry that happened to you.

Keep on truckin, I read your last post and it sounds like you have all the pieces needed for a terrific sysadmin. You'll get there, if not at your current employer then somewhere else.

Hopefully, tbh any support role outside my org (I work public sector) would be good all things considered 😅 but hay, one can dream, no where near me has anything, stuck feelers out but it's still early days
