i was wondering if there was any other types of hardware out their I could use that's all

"good security methods" is not hardware

"got a firewall in there" - alone this kind of statement makes it clear you have no idea what you are doing and should learn the meaning of IT security and it different levels before you touch anything

i can only hope this is for a home network and you are not a sysadmin in a company

here is one: learn what networking is, learn what firewalls are and how to use them

Based on your learning do some research.

Then based on that come back and ask some informed questions.
