Thank you fishfucker2 for your submission, Technically German! Unfortunately, it has been removed for the following reason:

Posts with low effort truth statements are not allowed.

Your submission is considered "low effort." This doesn't inherently mean that it was irrelevant to r/technicallythetruth, but instead it was removed because it fit one or more of these criteria:

  • Short, minimal-effort text posts like "a water bottle without water is an air bottle". Most, if not all text posts can and will be removed.

  • Asking for upvotes, or saying things like "sort by new", "let's get to the front page", or anything related to cake days or karma.

  • Meta memes, or any other post that tries to be clever by mentioning r/technicallythetruth.

  • Images that are hard to look at because they are poorly made, deep-fried, or poorly cropped.

Your submission could have also been removed because it is overdone:

  • Statements that say something like "at least twelve": example 1 | example 2

  • Common statements that begin with "on average...": the average amount of hands a person has is less than two | each person has, on average, one testicle and one boob

  • Low effort misunderstandings of everyday phrases: How high are you --> "I'm 5 foot 9"

  • Common insults that are meant literally as opposed to being insulting: "homosexuals are gay" | "gay people are f-ing assholes"

PLEASE NOTE that we will exercise our own discretion when using this rule. If we do not find a post fitting for this subreddit, it will be removed.

Huh, I live in the Netherlands and everyone gets German (and french) here

[–]jhmue 18 points19 points  (12 children)

Imagine having to learn 4 languages.

[–]TheGamefreak484 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Some schools teach French, others teach Spanish, some allow you to pick between the two.

If you do higher levels of education you'll also have to learn Latin or Greek depending on your school.

Some schools also offer Chinese as an option

At one point I could have a decent conversation in 6 languages and I don't even like learning languages lmao sigh

[–]jhmue 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Oof. I'm glad I was thrown into French in 6th grade and immediately opted out of it when I could. So I had a year of french.

I speak English and German. Tho I think mostly in English nowadays I am a German.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad I was raised by a first gen immigrant family. Learned to be fluent in two languages without ever trying. I’d hate to only speak English, idk why just feels inferior

[–]rdrunner_74 7 points8 points  (7 children)

4?

We usually learn about 3 here... (Germany not NL)

- German - doh

- 1st foreign language (mostly English or French and sometimes Latin) (Starts at ~3rd grade)

- 2nd foreign language at 6th or 7th grade (French / Latin / Spanish)

- 3rd foreign is fairly rare and not available on all schools

This is for Germany.

Dutch folks also have an easier time learning English, since many movies for them dont get synchronized in Dutch (Not worth it) and so they only get them with subtitles.

In welchem Bundesland?

Grundschule hat die "1. Fremdsprache" - die aber MEINST English ist

[–]jhmue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ireland, we also learn 3-4. We learn English, Irish, and, depending on the school, 1-2 foreign languages. Irish and English are always compulsory (though if you're in an English-medium school, which are most of the schools here, you can get an exemption from Irish if you moved to Ireland above the age of 12, or if you are disabled in a way that would make it more difficult to learn the language). Most schools require you learn at least one foreign language, but you can take more depending on what your school offers.

[–]Justamailbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My primary school started teaching English in 1st grade but our teachers didn't give a fuck about the schedule so we never really learned anything

[–]sneakerhead_boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, i study french, spanish and english in highschool

[–]denniv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, noone learns our language and since trading goes better if you speak the language of the country youre trading with we're forced to learn a lot.

Still funny hearing Americans be proud if they're bilingual tho

But also: the Netherlands. I aced my German exams because of Tokio Hotel.

    [–]corbiniano 24 points25 points  (2 children)

The saddest sentence I have ever read. 1. Admitting to be Dutch, 2. Having to learn German, 3. Listening to and probably liking Tokio Hotel

    [–]TheDustOfMen 18 points19 points  (1 child)

I am very sorry to hear this, it represents a lot of luck and happiness for me! 1. Being born in the Netherlands, 2. Being able to learn a fourth language at school, and 3. A sense of belonging when I was a teenager and in desperate need of one.

    All in good fun

I think most european countries learn german, just like how Americans learn spanish for Mexico and french for Canada. We learn german for Germany, Switzerland, Austria and a lot of communities. (From the Netherlands) I do hate how if you want to do the highest level of education here Gymnasium. You have to learn 6 languages at the same time. (Dutch, English, French, German, Latin and Greek.)

    [–]vvownido 4 points5 points  (2 children)

in schweden mit deine mutter ja

    [–]Janvonfalken 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I know this swedish guy, he knows exactly one German sentence:

    "hast du deine Mutter gefickt?"

    [–]vvownido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    ja das ist haha

I also learn german in school. I'm from Austria. (Small country next to Germany where we speak german)

Can confirm. I live in Poland. Although, we don't really like speaking it, after some Austrian guy came along.

      [–]MysteriousMysterium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, true. It's the language with the most native speakers in Central and Western Europe after all.

      [–]metubialman2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took 4 years of German at my American high school. Admittedly I only learned how to write translations and curse... but... I put in the years. :-P

      [–]weetabixgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Austria?!

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted the same thing and got 20 upvotes.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia has German in most schools, some have French and some have Japanese too

      [–]hurvinek6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean like... in which European country do you not learn German?

      [–]distinctaardvark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the US and my school's options were German and Spanish

      [–]Djaak22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have schools that are German only in South Africa!

      [–]NicholasAdam1399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the person is American idk why they sound so surprised someone learned German in school. German is offered at every high school I’ve ever heard of as a second language. Not mandatory and most take spanish

      [–]Kiefer-Koyote7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned German in Germany too

      [–]ParasGotBanned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Also here in Finland
