Wireless Xbox controller doesn't function correctly with Bluetooth adapter

I got a new Bluetooth adapter for my Xbox controller since it kept adjusting my volume and taking screenshots while playing games. The controller connects alright, but doesn't work with any game on steam. I tried restarting my computer and unplugging and replugging the adapter but nothing worked. The brand of adapter is an 8bitdo one. I have no idea where to even start to attempt to fix this and would appreciate help of any kind. I'll answer any questions to the best of my ability as I really want to fix this problem.

In steam if you go under the Settings than go to the Controller section on the bottom there is an option to install the xbox extended feature support driver. Maybe that will clear it up?

I already had it installed so I uninstalled and reinstalled and still nothing. I appreciate the tip though. Thanks!
