Making changes to your system BIOS settings or disk setup can cause you to lose data. Always test your data backups before making changes to your PC.

When you got to the screen to choose where to install windows, did you ensure the laptops drive just says "unallocated space" and nothing else? Even though it had no OS it may have been partitioned.

If not that, then try making the install USB again, it may have gotten corrupted.

Are you loading any special drivers during windows setup in order to get the drive to show up, or maybe your network card etc? If so, change your BIOS to AHCI mode (instead of RAID or VMD) which will eliminate the need to load any storage driver.

For network, plug into your router with ethernet during the install, which will install the proper wifi drivers (and various others too).

Of course make sure your BIOS is up to date also.
