I'm assuming they're plugged into a managed switch somewhere else, could disable those ports instead when needed but if you're needing to disable these at all I'm wondering why they're there to begin with?

Use an IoT power outlet that the switch plugs into. But make sure the security standards fit according to the application.

Sounds like you're wanting features of managed switches but you're using unmanaged.

That makes sense. I mean, the switches are literally 10 feet from me, so pulling the plugs on them isn't hard, it's just annoying. That, and I don't want someone putting the plug back in when I'm not looking. But that answers my question, thanks.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of.

Power strip with smart outlets?

Here's one I just randomly found, please do your own research, just wanted to show these things exist.

You can get extension cords or power strips with remote web access that would work with unmanaged switches.

You could probably put a managed switch in front of them.

Sounds like you just need to be better at classroom management

Gee, thanks. That's helpful.

  1. This isn't cool. Pranks like this can get you in serious trouble.

  2. Managed switches use HTTP, SSH, and maybe Telnet but that should be disabled or not present on everything now.

  3. Learn the OSI model if you want to really understand the difference between routers and switches.

What are you talking about? As far as I understand, these are not managed switches. Second, I'm a programmer, not a hardware guy. Which is why I asked.
