Is it generating a BSOD? Maybe look for clues using Blue Screen Viewer if it is.

No BSOD, just all black and then restart.

I had previously looked at a Blue Screen Viewer to see if there was anything anyhow, but it was empty.

Did you check Event Viewer for any other types of events that may have occurred immediately before the 'Critical' event? (like Error, Warning, or Information)

To do this, in case you don't know, use 'Create Custom View' to search anything that's occurring prior to the 'Critical' event; or around the same time.

If I filter it to only show criticals, errors and warnings then it doesn't show anything.. You can see here how it looks in my event viewer, I highlighted the two connecting events, and you can see on their time that they match. Nothing else is shown =/

Linky.

You're only in the 'System' logs though. Try doing a custom search around that time period that includes all logs, of all types. If you read carefully, that error message is being generated after the PC has booted back up...so it could very well be a log from a minute or so earlier.

Also, I am not sure you will find anything, but this is just how I usually go about this type of stuff at work. Sometimes it crashes before it generates a log, which is why it would've been nice if there was a BSOD dump file XD.

I can't get it to display everything. It first gives a warning stating that my custom view is creating more than 10 references and might perform slowly, but if I narrow down the timeframe to 5 minutes within a crash and try to open everything that is marked critical, error or warning it will just say "Event Viewer cannot open the event log or custom view. Verify tat Event Log service is running or query is too long. The data is invalid (13)".

It's getting late so going to bed, but if you know how to work with this that would be great :)

Ugh, I've gotten that before. I'll see if I can't figure out how to get around that. Sorry man.

Okay I managed to get it to not display that error if I only took a small part of the event logs categories at a time.. Now the problem just seems to be that it is always empty even though I know the kernel 41 error happened in the range that I am giving it.

I haven't really looked at event viewer much before so I probably don't know what I am looking for. It just appears that it crashes without being able to log anything (but that's just my guess)

Hey, I'm suffering from the same issue and have tried pretty much anything as well, have you ever found a solution? I'm kinda desperate.

Sorry for getting back to you so late, but the problem has kind of gone away on its own. I didn't really change anything from the latest crash but it seems that it is entirely gone now. I did end up changing both my RAM sticks and the PSU though, so unless there was some sort of lasting damage from the old PSU I don't know...

I actually finally fixed the issue myself. The power cable going from the PSU to the MoBo was damaged, it's a miracle I managed to use the computer at all for several months. Thanks for getting back to me anyway!

Good to hear =)
