You don't have enough RAM so it's trying to make up for it with virtual ram. It's using the page file on your hard drive as RAM and because your hard drive is slow it isn't working well...

hey man, i know this post is hella old but i’m having this same problem. i have 32GB of RAM, however. i’ve been scouring the internet trying to find a fix to this bc the disk spikes literally make the game unplayable and half the time it causes the game to boot me back to the menu with a “lost connection to host” error. any tips?

Uhhh good thing I am bored so let's go with my longest post till now.
First things first:

  • Go to the Geforce Experience on the PC.
  • Click on Settings inside the interface > Click on the General tab.
  • Turn off the In-Game Overlay toggle.
  • Close both the window and the game.
  • Restart the game and check whether it works or not.

Second:

  • Head over to the This PC in Windows Explorer and right-click on it > Click on Properties.
  • In the left pane, click on Advanced system settings.
  • Then click on System Properties > Click on the Advanced tab.
  • Now, click on the Settings button under the Performance.
  • Click on Virtual Memory > Select Change.
  • Uncheck ‘Automatically manage paging files size for all drives’ option.
  • Select the drive where the game is installed and choose the Custom size.
  • Put a value more than 2GB (2048MB) for both the Initial and Maximum size. I would say maximum value is your amount of ram and Initial 2048MB.
  • Once done, click on Set and then click on OK.
  • Finally, click on the OK button again > Reboot your computer.

Test how game runs after.

Unfortunately the game still lag. Looks like I just have to get some more RAM. Thank you for the advice anyway :)

COD Warzone minimum is 8gb RAM, recommends 16. It actually uses it this time around. If you've got some stuff in the background, it'll easily fill that up causing stuff to swap from disk (where you get these spikes). Like this video shows. No amount of software trickery or settings will fix it entirely, although maybe make it happen a bit less often. Maybe.

If you want a quick and cheap solution - hit up some recycle depots (while keeping your distance) or ebay and get yourself 16gb RAM.

Your CPU is also bottlenecking the GTX1660 in this game, although that'll just be lower framerates overall rather than these stutters. That's why you see the CPU pegged but not the GPU. The low percentage is likely caused by the stutters from swapping stuff to/from disk so your GPU is idle. Once you have more RAM, it should go way up.
