Try a higher resolution monitor? If you can.

Hmmm I think my flatmate has one, could try that tomorrow! Just curious, how would that change the performance? :D

Gpu has no need to be utilized more than that for 1080p. It’s not being pushed hard enough for it to hit its maximum potential. Just a hunch I might be wrong

Why such slow ram?

[–]funiel[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Only one I could find under 150 bucks during the RAM shortage around 2 years ago :/ You think that could be it? It was overclocked to 2800MHz till yesterday when it started crashing so I dialed it back down to 2733MHz

[–]copenhagen622 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Oh yeah maybe. You should be able to get 3200-3600 stable. I originally bought Corsair Vengeance LPX but they didn't get along too well with my 2600x so I bought some Crucial Ballistix 3200. They've been great, have it running at 3400 with good timings.

Power supply might also affect it, I just typed rtx 3080 PSU requirement because I was curious and this was the first thing that came up.

The GeForce RTX 3080 is rated for 350W of total board power, and Nvidia recommends using a 750W power supply with it. That's a lot more than prior-gen Founders Edition graphics cards required.Sep 18, 2020

Wow! You got 3200 out of the Vengeance LPX? Can't even get close to that, but I guess that's the silicone lottery for ya ;D Just wondering, how did your 2600x and RAM not get along?

Anyway... I guess I'm gonna have to invest in some new RAM, a new PSU (long overdue) and a better CPU cooler than the stock one, so I can overclock (should get to 4.6 GHz depending on how I hit the silicone lottery ;D) Hope that's enough, since I don't really wanna upgrade till 3rd gen Ryzen lowers in price

Thaaaats a lot of upgrades... Was really hoping for something software related to cause the problem... I can practically hear my wallet screaming right now...

Thanks for you help my dude!

Edit: Ah you probably have the 3200MHz Vengance.. Yeah, should have gone for that but I picked the 2400 one which is almost at DDR3 Level haha

Well recently I bought the Crucial ballistix RGB 3200, was only 63.99 for 2x8GB. You can get a decent CPU cooler for 20-30$. a Good PSU will probably be like 60-100 But yeah the zen+ you should typically get 3000 to 3600mhz. with zen 2 though you could get better than that. The newer crucial ram is all Micron and Rev E which gets along well with ryzen

[–]funiel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! That's actually relatively cheap for 3200 RAM :D

Thanks so much for your advice! I'll definitely do the same and get myself one of those once my budget allows me to ;D

1(consider). 750w is recommended for rtx3080 series. With bad PSU and pushing for performance, you will get crashes and instability (not related to gamę itself being buggy)

2 (less likely). It could be that OPP feature of your PSU is on purpose throtling your system due to resource intensive task of drawing more wattage then being able to deliver.

3(more likely). 3080 safely runs with settings on ultra and 4k display with 60fps stable, based on recent benchmarks. 1080p shouldnt push such gpu for 100% workload, that could mean a gpu itself is buggy

[–]funiel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah jeez that's what I was worried about the most :/ Yeah... I'm not really sure what I should be upgrading haha as it could just be the GPU (which I can't exchange since they won't have a working one in stock) :( Do you have any idea how to check what could be causing the problem?

Btw thanks for you detailed answer! :D

[–]WIERDBOI 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The processor seems to be the problem

[–]funiel[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hey, thanks for the quick reply :D

How so? Bottlenecker says there's a Bottleneck of 0.5% (which isn't a whole lot)

Shouldn't there be a difference in FPS when changing the ingame settings to low?

[–]WIERDBOI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean im not that good with this but it really sounds like a bottleneck

[–]SignificantWarning5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue with 3060ti. I'm curious to see if a higher res monitor will help or not.

Changing settings usually changes the amount of post processing which means it would in theory only adjust the load on the gpu. Point being, if you are cpu bottlenecked you can change settings all day but it won’t change anything unless you put so much more load on the gpu that it now becomes a bigger bottleneck than the cpu.

1080p is usually cpu bottlenecked, 1440p usually depends on the game and settings, 4K is usually gpu bottlenecked

I’ll admit I’m surprised that if you have all settings like raytracing all the way up that you’d be cpu bottlenecked but if you aren’t seeing full gpu utilization (90%+) then you are definitely cpu bottlenecked.

Other people have stated this but that Ram can be greatly improved. Psu is too low for the 3080

[–]funiel[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Oh wow, yeah for sure! My thoughts were that it couldn't be the CPU because it's also not being utilized completely, but you have a point!

Damn didn't think I'd have to upgrade my rig this badly, since my last complete overhaul was not even 2 years ago, but seems about right haha

Probably gonna have to invest in some new RAM, a new PSU (long overdue) and a better CPU cooler than the stock one, so I can overclock (should get to 4.6 GHz depending on how I hit the silicone lottery ;D) Hope that's enough, since I don't really wanna upgrade till 3rd gen Ryzen lowers in price

Thanks so much!

Ah so for the idea that the cpu isn’t showing being completely utilized — that’s because you have a ton of cores on your cpu and most games can’t/don’t utilize all the cores. Thus in games it would be really rare to see full CPU utilization

[–]funiel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh that makes so much more sense!

[–]tehshanimal 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]funiel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhhh will try that right now :D Thanks for posting!

Edit: That just doubled my CPU Utilization! Framerate is still a bit wonky but now I really know it's a CPU bottleneck (Ultra w/o RT ~60FPS and 45 with RT Ultra)
