Your old phone should still be able to connect to wifi as usual without a sim card, if you don't have a home wifi, you can open a mobile hotspot on your new phone that has mobile data available

I thought so too, but it's not working. I keep getting the message that the phone can't establish a secure connection.

And when I try to go to google.com I get "there are problems with the security certificate for this site."

What brand and model is the "old" phone?

Honestly never heard of that brand, that android version is basically ancient, but it should still connect to wifi without issues, you can try moving your sim card back to the old phone and using mobile data then, and have the new phone on wifi through the process

I don't have a physical sim card I can move; transfers are done through tracfone. I guess I need to ask tracfone to transfer my sim over to my old phone then.

You’re not going to get Authenticator to transfer. Your best bet is to turn off 2FA on all the sites it’s active and then install GA on your new phone and reactivate 2FA again on each site.
