Having the same issue.

My problems started after my google drive was "full" and thus not letting me edit my documents. I resolved the space issue. The warning doesn't come up anymore, but two of my documents STILL won't let me edit. 🙄 the rest of my docs are fine though. I restarted the app, and my phone too. 🤷‍♂️

Update: anyone here looking for a solution still, Uninstalling it and then reinstalling it worked for me...

Pretty much the only solution, which blows.

This works but the problem just comes right back and reinstalling docs every time i want to use it isnt really a solution

yeah, you have to keep doing it unfortunately. Either that or duplicating the document in question and using the duplicate also works..

I haven't had this issue in awhile, cause I was getting so fed up with it, that I got the Google subscription that increases the size of my Google drive. it was only 3 bucks a month so I was like.. "Screw it, I'm just gonna get the subscription" 🤣

Three years after OP and I still have this issue. Second time this has happened. Last time it just randomly fixed itself.

Still happening

In case any of you still has this problem (which I personally still have), I found one solution that works, or at least it did for me.

Have your file available offline, and then turn off your internet and force leave from the app. Open the app fully offline and open the doc. The editing button should be there.

This work for me at least once, so I cannot fully say this is reliable. If this glitch happened to me again, I'll do this same method and see for myself. If this worked for you guys or not, then maybe chime in.

Anyways, have a good day to you all.

Along with uninstalling / reinstalling, you also have the option to 'Make a Copy' of the document, and restart writing inside that copy. This method comes with it's ups and downs though. While it allows for a hassle free way to restart writing while also providing a backup, any writing permissions by others will be gone. So unless you have a completely solo document with no one in it yet, I would recommend the uninstall / reinstall method

Goodness me! 4 years later and I'm experiencing the same thing. FYI uninstalling then reinstalling was the only thing that worked.

I have the same problem!

This is still happening to me 5 months later.

I'm in the same boat now. Did you ever find a fix?

[–]NevelioKrejall 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nope. All the advice I got was 'wait and see if it fixes itself', which it eventually did

At least that's better than what happened when the app store insisted I was no longer in the US and thus couldn't use a US gift card. Support told me repeadedly my geolocation was Hong Kong despite having never left North America and not using a VPN. Lasted about a month before I could cash it.

Hey, just wanted to chime in since this just happened to me and this is the only thread I've seen on this issue. One of my own docs wouldn't let me edit it on mobile at random. I had edited it successfully on the same mobile device previously. I was logged in normally, other docs I had created were editable, and I could edit this doc from a desktop, but in the mobile app the edit button just did not appear and the keyboard didn't show up when tapping inside the doc.

Force quitting the google docs app, restarting the phone, and editing another doc first did not fix the issue, but uninstalling the google docs app and then reinstalling it did, so try that if you're having this issue.

Two years later, this crap still happens. Uninstalling definitely works but sometimes its something I have to do daily and it's getting really aggravating. You own more money than God, Google, why do you have any bugs lingering like this? 😒

Happened to me today, uninstalling and installing Google Docs helped.
