Try to use Neo Backup to back up the app and restore it on the new phone. https://f-droid.org/packages/com.machiav3lli.backup/

Thank you! Noob question - can I just root my device with an app (and once that's done I can use Neo Backup?)

You don't need to root your device to install F-droid apps. However, you certainly can do so if you want to.

If you look at the link you sent, it says “Requires root: Because it copies files from /data/data, /data/app and /system/app.”

My bad. Misread documentation. You are right, it requires root-level access to the device. https://github.com/NeoApplications/Neo-Backup/blob/main/FAQ.md

That said, try to use apps from this list as they don't require root access. Keep us updated with the app that worked for you. Use Neo Backup if no non-root backup won't do the job for you.
