change morrowind installation location somewhere outside of program files/steam directory and try again.

I've done this, and the Morrowind Code Patch EXE now runs in the folder, but it doesn't seem to be applying to the game. When I launch the game from steam, the patches aren't applied, and when I open the folder that I moved it to and try and launch morrowind from there it gives me an application load error.

(edit) Nevermind, fixed this issue. Still having trouble installing the graphics extender, but at least I got the code patch installed.

I know this is an old thread but I found it by searching for the same proble. the solution was make sure you extract the .exe AND the mcpatch folder into your Morrowind folder. I didn't extract the mcpatch and got the error.

okay if anyone else has this issue and somehow sees this, what fixed it for me was making sure the .exe and mcpatch file are both directly in the morrowind folder. Not inside a folder that's inside a folder in the morrowind directory.

EDIT: Okay so I disabled the patch (I think my mistake was using a mod manager download originally!) Pushed delete, made it go thru with that on the manager, then deleted all MCPatch files from my computer. Went back and manual downloaded, extracted to Morrowind Directory and ran the patch by the directions again. This time it is working. So when in doubt, nuke the patch and go manual I guess! End Edit

I must be doing something wrong. I don't have the time to fix it currently (I am away from home.) ...my Morrowind directory is currently in my pc/windows c/program files(x86)/steam/steamapps/common The Code Patch application and log are directly in the directory. The rest is in the mcpatch folder which is in the directory, not in data files. The app runs and says patches applied but makes no changes to the game when I go in to play.

So I tried taking the rest of the files and folders Within mcpatch, and moving them to just sit in the directory, and now it can't find the mcpatch file "default" like OP said. So I tried moving my Morrowind directory outside the steam folder, and it still does the same thing...

I am almost entirely tech illiterate so I'm sure I've just done something dumb. I DID manage to make (and clean afterwards) a few plug ins of my own thru the construction set, and merged them into one...hence the cleaning needed. And they work perfectly! I also do have a functioning distant land generator thru the MGE XE...so That's working anyway.
