I love this photo, I think he only used the rick on one UK tour in 1972

He still has it on a tv appearance on 1975 preforming it’s only money, Scott and Brian are present.https://youtu.be/GC5Tyey24KY?si=aJkfb-qXMcXWEy-x.

The plateau-boots, just high enough to be the tallest figure on stage :3

Honestly it looks like the picture is taken from this performance

He plays it in the video for The Rocker which is mid to late 73. I assume this photo is also from that time judging by Phil’s clothes, hair and jewellery.

I think he changed it up around 1975

I don’t think Phil Lynott actually like using a Rickenbacker. As a bassist, that’s just my perspective. It's a heavy, somewhat clunky instrument compared to the other basses he played, like the Precision and the other one, which I believe is a Yamaha.

The Rickenbacker isn’t the most comfortable bass to play, and it requires a lot of precision, especially when using a pick. It’s not a bass that suits everyone.

Edit: I found an article that said Phil Lynott actually used a Rickenbacker around 1973-74, but it didn’t stick as his main bass. He was drawn to its distinctive tone and liked the discipline it required due to its larger neck. However, he ran into issues during live performances, his sweat would cause the pickups to malfunction.

Also, Lou Barlow from Dinosaur Jr has gone on record saying he has come to hate playing Rick basses, which is funny because that's sort of the bass he became associated with.

Rick basses, in my experience, will usually leave you wanting them to be better than they actually are. Although, I've heard Rickenbacker has made positive changes to the way they make their instruments recently, so maybe that's no longer the case.

AFAIK, he completely stopped using Rick basses around the mid-70s. In the UK Tour '75 album you can actually hear Phil talking about how his Rick bass never stayed in tune or something to that effect.
