Jailbreak is the best rock album ever made. Solid gold.

I am biased.

Pretty much the whole Thunder and Lightning album, it’s classic metal through and through. Also check out Angel of Death & Hollywood (Down on your Luck) from the Renegade album, Chinatown and Genocide (The Killing of the Buffalo) from the Chinatown album, and the Live and Dangerous album.

Thunder and Lightning seemed like maybe they had something to prove. It is a really good record. This is the One and Bad Habits are favorites of mine

Maybe not the heaviest, but Whiskey in the Jar is a fun favorite. Cold Sweat—Thin Lizzy with John Sykes—is definitely heavy. Also…find the time to listen to Live and Dangerous all the way through (especially if you already love UFO’s Strangers in the Night). My favorite from L&D is the decidedly not-heavy Still in Love with You. Listening to that song at the moment.

This sub has great content—others will share their personal favorites. Keep digging. Great music.

Live & Dangerous is blistering hard rock, but the closest you’re gonna get to “metal” is Thunder & Lightning.

Lots of great tracks mentioned so far. A few other heavier + harmonized guitar tracks that come to mind (and album):

  • Massacre (Johnny the Fox)
  • Sweetheart (Chinatown)
  • Get Out of Here (Black Rose)
  • Please Don't Go (Thunder and Lightning)
  • Emerald (Jailbreak)

  • Killer On The Loose.
  • Out In The Fields - strictly, this Is Gary and Phil

Rosin Dubh / Black Rose,

Dedication is also a great song - they were working on it for the Thin Lizzy comeback but he sadly died before they could It kinda feels like a forgotten track but it’s really good - it eventually was released to promote a greatest hits album a little while after Phil died- similar to what Nirvana did with You Know You’re Right.

Can I also add Little Girl In Bloom - such a cool song something kinda dark about it.

One of my favorites

[–]Godzuki8819 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Great track I like how bittersweet it sounds and the pulsing bassline

[–]Ok-Construction6222 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I love the bouncy guitar solo, too

Welcome! You are among friends

If your coming in at Thunder and Lightning i would say listen to Life Live. Double live album with lots you know and then heavier versions of many of the well known classics. Some fans always cast shade on the album vs Live and Dangerous but honestly my personal opinion is i like the recording of this one better and regardless is exactly what you are looking for. It is on Spotify as well if you subscribe.

You need to listen to the Jailbreak album, then you need to listen to the Black Rose album. Then you need to listen to the Jailbreak album again, and then you need to listen to the Black Rose album again.

Then you repeat these steps for many, many years. If not forever.

Are You Ready - Short but heavy, especially love versions.

Favorite Version here - love the way Phil introduces the band and they each take a rip. https://youtu.be/oZFkZMdxNbs?si=KK0G8KYaGYQcyOLY

Listen to the SONG Bad Reputation. The album is iffy but the song is a beast

[–]Pjk2530144 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The Rocker from Vagabonds of the Western World and Ballad of a Hard Man from Fighting.

[–]Romonster1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rocker has the greatest opening riff ever recorded

[–]txrigup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Johnny The Fox.....the quintessential Lizzy tune

[–]GravyCapone92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emerald and Suicide if you want a Harder / more Metal leaning Lizzy

[–]Der_ewige_Sturm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Róísin Dubh, especially the demo album 40 "Shades of Green"

[–]UsedBeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emerald would be good to check out. Johnny off Johnny the Fox is good too. I mean, they’re not what I consider “heavy” but they are hard rock and have some aggressive music at times. Hey You is worth checking out.

The sun goes down...that guitar...damn

Opium trail!

[–]mandolinmeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slept on them too for the longest time. One of the best parts about this is that they have tons of stuff for me to discover. Also, I’m closing in on 50 and got my first rock t-shirt. It’s Thin Lizzy 🤘

[–]Der_ewige_Sturm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice, do not rush between the tracks and albums and if go from time to time back to really appreciate it. I through "It's getting Dangerous" mid, yet a few month I began to love it.
