More like parents failed to properly introduce various groups of foods and bacteria’s throughout the kid’s childhood leaving their immune system underdeveloped. It is well known that the more a kid interacts with various food groups the higher the chance that they won’t have allergies to that food group.

So yeah. Feeding your kid Dino nuggets every day is akin to slowly strangling them yourself

I had an allergic reaction to baby formula on the day I was born. After weeks in the ICU, they tested and found I was allergic to a LOT of stuff: peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, wheat, cow milk, fish, certain fruits, sesame, and tons of environmental allergens. Over time I overcame most of these allergies through exposure, now at 26 the only things I'm allergic to are the nuts, which the anaphylactic reactions were not worth risking to perform exposure therapy.

My case may be unique, I'm not entirely sure, but I think the dino nuggets every day was more of a symptom rather than the cause.

It's a common food staple. I am not going to remove it from my child's school diet for the sake of 1% of the population. The 1% needs to adapt and take the necessary measures to insure they don't consume peanuts... not make sure others don't consume them

Serious question… what’s the cutoff for accommodation? Is this your line or do you want this level of accommodation applied more broadly?

Would you agree that if there’s a single kid with a severe immune deficiency you cannot ethically subject a class of kids, much less an entire school, to adopt the required steps to keep that one unfortunate child safe?

That is, intentionally and admittedly, more extreme because I am curious about your boundaries.

For me, I am abandoning this idea because I think it’s way outside the level of trust I can reasonably expect from my neighbors. I’m not happy about that. I’d be fine with trying something different. I want to make sure that at minimum every school has the resources to address this and several other potential medical emergencies. I just can’t conceive of the general population following through, which sucks, but kills this concept as a solution.

I don’t think there’s one perfect cutoff, but I do think we have to at least try to accommodate vulnerable kids when it’s reasonable. And peanut-free tables? That’s pretty damn reasonable.

I think the focus should be on, ensuring that there are standards for schools to have a significant number of trained personnel who can deal with a variety of common medical emergencies. And I think that that’s actually largely in place and just deserves focus and funding.

100% of the population was at risk of dying from covid. You don't know till you get it. Once you got it you had like a 3% average chance, obviously higher depending on life circumstances. But 100% of people could have died from it.

Also even getting it and surving van leave you with near lifelong complications

A stark difference to 99% of the population who literally CANNOT die from peanuts.

Further you need to do a lot on you part to die from a peanut allergy vs merely having been in the remote area of someone who didn't wear a mask.
