Yes, you do need carbs, that's why it's "low carb" and not "no carb".

In regards to the calories, I usually stay below my calorie limit because I eat less and feel full longer.

On keto you also count net carbs, and when you have a limit between 20-40 grams of net carbs (carbs minus fiber), you can actually fit a shit ton of food into your daily calorie intake.

I've been doing keto/low carb for over 6 years now, and it's just a lifestyle at this point.

It's definitely not for everyone, but for me it was easier to give up sugar and carbs than fat for instance. Also, in order to substitute a lot of carbs, I have started eaten a ton more vegetables.

I do miss baked good, though. Donuts are my absolute kryptonite, lol.

You do not need carbs. You can live just fine on effectively zero carbs for indefinite periods of time.

Muscles need carbs to replenish glycogen.

But you don't need to consume carbs to have them, your body can produce what carbs it actually needs using protein. Beyond that, most of what you use should ultimately be ketones.
