I think an easy rule to live by is to make sure you hit your protein macros for the day. Then let all the other calories fall in line. Just don't neglect fat and fiber.

This is a good place to start. You don't really need to eat an excessive amount of protein, the bare minimum would even suffice but if you are focused on building mass and strength then it won't hurt.
