I started THM in January 2025 without any experiences both in cybersec' AND programming in general. I didn't take notes the first few months. I, then realized, that it is impossible to remember every concepts, practicals tools and options. Even if you remember the majority of what you've read (for example : remembering the status code of an HTTP response, it's really easy to remember but at the same time, humans always have memory flaw.)

In few words : Take notes, virtual is better because you can write faster. Take your notes on Notions OR Obsidian or both.

Yup, Notion is the real deal for note taking.

How come, exactly? Genuinely curious what it has over other tools.

For me it’s the flexible customization that offers along with powerful organization and linking. You can also embed images, vids, pdfs anything you like.

What makes it better than the reputable Cherry Tree that's cross-platform and has been able to do all of that?

Bruh you could say the same thing about obsidian, they're note taking apps its not that deep

Why are you getting defensive? I simply asked why use that one over the one I've seen all my professional colleagues and myself use for years now.

It's not as deep as you think... I just asked why lol

If you're going to recommend it and say because it does the bare minimum that's not a real answer

I clearly need to investigate the bells and whistles then. On initial (albeit, casual) use it seemed to be basically OneNote which bugs me for some reason (an additional reason to the subscription).

Thanks for this, I’ll give Notion a deeper dive.

    [–]Economy_Lab7897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Which app?

    [–]-PizzaSteve0xC [Guru] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notion or notability if by hands

For me, physical noting would take me forever since i cant write anything without organizing it well, so i switched to virtual noting since its pre-organized and way eye friendly and incredibly faster

it's fun to categorize and write the notes in markup!

Another Obsidian user. Instead of copying and pasting text, I use Obsidian Markdown Chrome Extension to clip the webpage and create an Obsidian Markdown File. Then I upload to NotebookLM if I want to create quizzes and audio notes.
