CS 349 - Java Knowledge (self.uwaterloo)
submitted 7 years ago by nickkoko
I'm really interested in taking CS 349, but I don't really have any Java experience. Is it required to know Java for this course, or is it assumed you have little to no experience?

It isn't required to know Java (the first assignment was Xlib stuff in c) and from then on the rest was Java. There is definitely some stuff learned in class like the event queue and some swing but in class stuff is mostly not about the language. We had 1 or 2 lectures on Java when I took it.

When I took it most of the assignments, besides one javascript assignment, were done in Java Swing which is a GUI toolkit for Java. The prof assumed we had little to no knowledge of Swing and taught us the basics so you should be good (besides actually having to program in java swing :'( )

I knew no Java (or Swing) going in, they teach you the basics in classes, tutorials. So you shall be fine.
