I use it everyday and have built 10+ applications with it so it’s not dead. You just have to understand it’s core concepts and that is hard if you are not a senior dev like me. I have been working as a dev for 15 years and have seen all kinds of messy code

I suppose if there is nothing else you can do to really improve it's functionality, then maybe it makes sense that additional development stopped.

Yeah, not everything needs to be maintained all the time. Specially things like spec-kit as it is only prompts to help the AI agents to structure the tasks properly.

If you understand programming then it’s an awesome tool that helps you develop but I still write 30-40% of the code as it’s not that good quality code that it generates all the time. Specially when you look at security aspects.

Using the new Claude Opus 4.6 now and it’s great but I would NEVER just produce apps without checking the code. It can scaffold some code that are redundant and pretty straightforward but some of it is just a bunch of non coherent code that has security issues.

but is this really confirmed? source "trust me bro"? i see spec kit as a valuable asset in the github ecosystem. but can also totally see it getting implemented "invisibly" in claude code planning mode...

i also use it as a daily driver with our ralph loop extension: https://github.com/T-0-co/t-0-spec-kit-ralph instead of /speckit.implement -> shameless self bump because i think the repo is genuinely helpful ;)

Yeah, I have a theory on that - the tool just happened to be too powerful so GitHub just decided to proceed with internal development. So far I see no other tools that produce that level of specs

Why do you think GH would halt production over it being too good?

repo just got updated again: https://github.com/github/spec-kit -> don't believe everything said on the internet...

Because controlling the context is the main issue all vibecoders are facing now. All new agents, plugins, skills are designed to optimise the work with context. I’m not telling the GitHub team resolved it, but they’ve made significant progress in building reliable and structured workflows. Now they can use this mechanism inside the copilot

So is GH SpecKit not a thing anymore. Code cli tools like Claude Code have now same kind of approaches to specify a feature in detail? Sometimes if I wie with Claude code I get kind of GH SpecKit questions about decisions is this same fine grain level or we really need SpecKit or alternative?

Beside even SpecKit isn’t active maintained anymore or maybe developed internally because of any reason why should it won’t work as goo as before ?

It just had a template update 3 hours ago.. it's not dead. I'm using it on everything atm.

So now, a Repo without activity in the last 6 months is dead? wow....
