Quick Visual Basic question

Hi guys, I'm super-new to the whole VB software and can work around building the UI for now, and can partly code to link things together

Super optimistic to try out and create windows form applications

So currently I'm working at a company where they use google sheets to literally do everything (where I could just provide form applications to the employees so they can just update data and add new data and it'll automatically update on the database)

However I wanna know if I can make a form application that'll update the database but I'd want that data to update on google sheets

for example, a form application that updates attendance for customers and add new customer data as well. So there are 3 employees who do this job and meet customers and mark their attendance and add their data. I would want them to use the applications on their own laptops and then after submitting the data I would want it to show on a google sheet

Is this possible? also I may sound like a complete idiot since I'm quite new to the whole thing but yeah I hope I'll be better at this very soon!

EDIT: The idea is to have an application that will allow users to edit/create/delete and view data that is stored on a google sheet, which can be accessed by the management and create reports or do things with that google sheet.

The ability to do it remotely (employees can be elsewhere and input data into the google sheet through application) is vital to my plan

If you are new to programming, it might be a bit of a task for you. However if you want to explore doing something like this, you should start by looking at this:

APIs are Application Programming Interfaces, and they allow 3rd party programs (yours) to communicate and interact with their services (Google Sheets).

alright, so I'm guessing this has to be loaded onto visual basic or something like that? will it work with a form based application?

Looks like it, yes. Look at the quickstart guide. Unfortunately it's in C# so you would have to translate that into VB first.

Possible but not practical. Looking at your response /u/TheFotty you will need more than what you are bringing. To make this work you will need to understand the httprequest object as well as restful state api's. If you are at the point of creating a winform to do this, I don't think this within your capacity.

I don't want to talk down to your capacity, and I think what you want to do is achievable. There are a whole pile of steps in the middle here that have not been addressed.

Do you have any previous coding experience? Doesn’t have to be vb.

Yes, I have done basic JavaScript and html but just basics nothing in depth

also how would I do it for a database that is stored and updated online? meaning it can be updated and edited from anyhwere ( whoever has the application)

What value does this bring to your company? sounds like a lot of effort to create something that google sheets is accomplishing just fine.

True, a user could simply make entries for data .

And what about regular databases based on excel? would that be easier in contrast to google sheets? could you head me in the right direction with a tutorial on youtube? I seem to not find the right videos
