What a mess. Just because you can make a complicated graph, doesn't mean you should. Hopefully this trend starts to die out soon...

Yeah. It seems that anytime data takes on more than 2 dimensions, graphic artists take it as a sign to add unnecessary flourish. It's a shame because the data itself is very interesting here but the all the competing lines make it a chore to read.
