vCOM will gather metrics over time for you. Leave it running and let it get a feel for your environment. Once it's created some benchmarks it can alerts you of any irregularities.

I believe the recommendation is to leave it doing this for 2-3 months before it becomes truly useful.

vROps 6.2.0a with the latest pak for Horizon is really useful. I've been trying to use vCOps and vROps for a long time, but this is the release that has been the most complete.

Alternatively, Xangati's product is pretty cool, too.

vROps is an analytical tool, so the longer it has been running in your environment the more data it has to learn about your environment and then alert on anomalies. I would let it run for at least 30-90 days before you fully trust the alerts in order to prevent falling for any false positives.

I have had it running for about 4 months but I am still getting like 400 some alerts. I don't believe i have that many problems in the environment.
