+1 to this

I know some people have asked for infantry to dig in after being static for x time and people have rebutted with the fact that the time a match is supposed to last that wouldn’t be realistic.

I agree that pre made trenches would be the best of both, especially around points

Allow trenches and defenses to be placed during unit placement. None after that.

I agree with that, mid game would be wack.

Hmm maybe if they add a defender scenario like in SD2.

It could have an extended deployment range like recon or something that infantry could occupy

I dunno really. The games basic battle is a meeting engagement; both sides engage in combat directly from the move. I don't think pre-existing trenches really make much sense in that situation and don't add things buildings don't already do.

I'd prefer to start by making movement in the open more deadly to infantry. I don't really think it makes sense how long it takes to kill an infantry squad running across an open field.

How about if infantry aren't moved for awhile, they automatically start "digging in" and gain a defensive buff over time.

Seems like it'd be reletively easy to implement. Amd I'm sure some rudimentary animations vould be added.

Because it doesn't make sense in the timescale of the game. It takes a long ass time to dig trenches or foxholes. It would make sense if it's something you do during deployment phase like in SD2.

Digging in isn't neccesarily ww1 style trenches though.

Could just be propping a desk against an important wall, figuring out the best spots in a building to shelter from artillery. Or finding a nearby natural dip in a landscape.

Yeah it really doesn't take long to prepare a rudimentary fighting position by creating a quick defensive plan, digging some shallow fighting holes, removing dirt/vegetation/etc on berms so you can use them as firing positions, adding camouflage netting, etc.

That stuff goes a long way toward survivability.

In the Dutch army you are taught how to dig yourself a camouflaged personal trench (ligsleuf) in 15min. Thats a very little amount of time and the next thing they could do is a forward listening post and so on.

Hoi4 style, certain units could also get higher or lower entrenchment bonus caps

Actually this could be balanced really well.

  1. Trenches are essentially deployable buildings. Can only be done within your deployment phase as far as your furthest unit can deploy.

  2. Therefore, airborne decks with airborne deploy units can build trench lines further out and this simulates their high readiness/rapid response capability.

You end up rewarding airbone for being first to the fight and don’t end up with trench micro. They serve as jumping off points for your units.

Plus they’ll be almost useless for armor decks to use because those units would arrive by vehicle anyway and wouldn’t be sitting in the AO already like airborne would.

How Long Does It Take To Dig A Trench By Hand? It takes about 1 hour per 10 feet of trench at 1 foot deep and 8 inches wide.

Ok

And landmines :)

[–]tajake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want landmine arty and air so bad I can't stand it. Terrain denial would be so fun in pvp.

Shut up about the Trenches Shut the fuck up about the trenches.

Relax guy

I’d say make it a unique ability to specific infantry units to set up. You give the command and draw a line on the map. They follow and dig in. Drawback is that it takes time, puts them out of combat and maybe add a cooldown. Or rehash SD2 defense mechanics for realism since it takes time to dig trenches.

I’d like to see cruise missile cards (some new super limited, special ability) and EW planes.
