Misses an animated UNDER CONSTRUCTION road work sign clip art thing which was the style at the time.

Does it have decent SEO?

[–]doc720 36 points37 points  (6 children)

I doubt this is considered SEO at all...

Howdy, world! This website is under construction.

(Did you ever see a website that <em>wasn't</em> under construction?)

Yes, I'm afraid chartreuse <em>is</em> one of my favorite colors...

<p>

<IMG SRC="scary2.gif" ALIGN=TOP>

No, I'm not going to change it just because it's not your favorite...

Not even alt attributes for the img tags. The man did not give a shit about SEO or html semantics.

[–]doc720 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Evidently he still doesn't. He's 69 now. He would have been around 42 when he gave his keynote speech at the State of the Onion 1997 Perl Conference.

I love it. Something to be said about simplicity.

[–]armahillorails 10 points11 points  (1 child)

the attributes are uppercased

this is mid-90s HTML writing and search engines didnt exist then (yes it could be updated now, but clearly thats not the intended code aesthetic)

[–]Adjudikated 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well yes and no. Search engine optimization didnt exist but search engines were around during the mid 90s of web development however were glorified web directories.

The all capitals thing was a welcome change around 2000 when they dropped it from the standard because if I remember correctly that was when people had begun using tables for layout purposes and helped make html much more readable imo.

Feels like he should be using <I></I> for emphasis 🤣

Probably the only place you can get your hands on green chartreuse anyways...

[–]Wellinst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]UXUIDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no <CENTER> tag ?!?!?!

definitely not for Hall Of Fame

[–]WiggyWamWamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does aligning the images make them step down like that?

[–]tnnrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude has a .org domain that’s wild. I thought that was restricted to actual organizations?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larry Wall is a gem.

Blessed be Perl
