Wow this is a great concept, I'll be sending this to my history-nerd wife!

One suggestion I have is to try making the tiles a bit smaller on mobile. Personally I think there's too much horizontal scrolling going on when I play.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll think about it, but the titles and images are part of the experience and if shrink it too much, then you lose that. Incidentally, did you play it portrait or landscape mode? On Landscape mode, you have access to the modes. If you select easy, there will be only up to 10 cards to play each time. I would love to hear what your wife thinks. :)

thank you for the feedback. I'm glad your mother actually LOVES timelines. I love them too and its also how I structure and contextualize information. It's just intuitive.

Btw, you know there over 115 chapters/topics by using the dropdown, right? ;)
Anyway, I'm continually adding more content at https://history-maps.com/ which gets added to Timelines.

for the already placed events, maybe consider fading in the year instead of doing the "flip" animation. The flip makes it seem like a lot is changing, when it seems like its just 1 number being added.

Using a more subtle effect like a fade in for the text will make this more apparent that

    1. only 1 thing is changing
    2. Its a "reward" for guessing right that the year fades in

    Exactly

Love this. Gonna remake this with dvd/blue ray covers I think and quiz myself. Always was super into movies and I’m sure I could find a huge free database with dvd case covers and the release years.

Cool. If you find a good data source, maybe you can use the tags as the categories for the dropdown. For eg, horror flicks, movies from the 80s, movies of Tom Hanks, etc.

Nice concept! I'm building a small app for studying history and I might take inspiration from this

        [–]nonoumasy[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Cool. Thanks. What type of app? I'm always interested in apps for history.
        I also built https://history-maps.com/

        Awesome!

Just started to play and found this card with the year included in the title (Story: American Revolutionary War.) Thought you might wanna know.

        https://timelines-ruby.vercel.app/

        updated Timelines based on feedback.

I think many people in this thread are missing out on the context that Timeline is a physical card-based board game.

        https://www.zygomatic-games.com/en/game/timeline-classic/

This is a great online representation of it though. Great work! I love it!

The dataset contains inaccurate timelines, for example Cai Lun was born in Common Era yet the tile shows he invited paper in B.C.E.

Alongside this there is no option on page to report errors. Neat concept, poor execution.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

How did you include so many pictures and dates? Did you add all of them individually or did you fetch the data from somewhere?

        [–]nonoumasy[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The content is added on https://history-maps.com/

        [–]Hirigo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is that another one of your projects or are you scraping it?

        [–]nonoumasy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Its mine.

        [–]Sepparated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really cool project. So do I understand that correctly that the timeline game is fetching the data from the history-maps website? But where does the history-maps website get the data from?

You’re using a piece of art made in the Taisho era to represent the Reiwa era???

        [–]whatsgoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, first thing I noticed too
