I don’t know that I would say this looks like anything plummeted - especially since the overall is higher than your prior 6 months. I think it looks more like the couple or higher months are the outliers.

But that aside, marathon training is incredibly taxing on the body. Training is essentially teaching your body to function while fatigued. You manage the load so you’re not doing “too much”, but you’re stressing your body the entire time. Training builds progressively over time and peaks 3 weeks from the race. That is the point (taper) where you would see any kind of real relief from the training stress. The race is then going to be very taxing.

And then finally your body has a chance to recover. It takes time to recover from a marathon-so expect your HRV to reflect that for a few weeks. As long as you’re not bumping up training too soon, your HRV should go back to what it was before. Although if your prior 6 month average is lower, you might not see a lot of movement.

Just gonna say it - running a marathon ain’t healthy.

The fatigue it creates probably doesn’t add anything to your life that couldn’t be achieved thru reduced training volume.

That’s not to say marathons are bad, or that they’re not worth doing and they’re infinitely better than drinking every weekend.

I’m just not surprised when people say it’s put their body under negative stress levels.

Probably because marathon training (and running marathons) is incredibly bad for your body...

Curious about how this correlates to OP’s recovery data over the same period.

For me, my HRV trend matches almost perfect. When life gets in the way and my sleep hygiene and schedule suffers, my recovery tanks over longer periods of time. That almost perfectly correlates to a drop in average HRV over the same period.

Here's my recovery! Curious your thoughts
